WHAT IS THE TREASURE BOX?

We package together $75-$100 dollars of grocery store food into boxes that are designed to feed a family of four for about a week, or a senior citizen for almost a month. The Treasure Box contains between 22-25 pounds of high quality, frozen foods of which 10-12 pounds are proteins like chicken, beef, pork or seafood, as well as vegetables, fruit, a side dish and a dessert. We then provide the boxes to the organization and the surrounding community for $30 and the boxes of food are distributed directly to the families. This is a way of offering a solution to the high cost of groceries or as a ministry outreach to the local community. This food represents a discount of about 60% off grocery store prices.

Decoding Product Dating...

“USE BY”, “SELL BY”, “BEST BEFORE” – what does it all mean? Dating on packaging can be very confusing. Here it is in a nutshell: Once a perishable product has been frozen, it doesn’t matter if the date expires because food kept frozen continuously is safe indefinitely.

Here is some additional background information which will shed some light on this confusing topic. Calendar dating is found on perishable foods such as meat, poultry, eggs and dairy products. It is date stamped on the packaging to help the store determine how long to hold the food for sale. The date can also be helpful to the consumer to identify the time limit to buy the item or when the product is at its best quality.
